Overview:

Zachary Group contracted A.H. Beck to complete the deep foundation and ground improvement for Omaha Public Power District’s Standing Bear Lake Station, a new 150-MW gas-fired power station facility in Douglas County, Nebraska. The deep foundations required the installation of 629 auger cast piles consisting of 14 and 18-inch diameter piles to a minimum depth of 70 feet. Our approach played a key role in completing the project ahead of schedule by allowing other trades to build the superstructure while we continued to establish the deep foundation. To verify the deep foundation met all specifications, we installed four instrumented compression test piles at various depths, but the shortest pile was the only one tested due to the tremendous load-carrying capacity shown during the load test.
