Company History
1920s
August Beck’s first steam shovel
In the early 1920s, steam shovel operator and general excavator, August H. Beck Sr., purchased his first steam shovel to excavate basements and footings in San Antonio, Texas.
1932
First mechanized foundation drill rig in the U.S.
In 1932 August H. Beck Sr. took two “very used” steam shovels and converted them into foundation drilling machines by attaching a boom, turntable (deck gears), and piped steam to the turntable to power a 12 hp steam swing motor to turn a kelly bar.
1940s
Steam-powered rigs are replaced by chain-driven mechanical rigs

Superconducting Super Collider
A.H. Beck was contracted to install access, alignment, and vent shafts to facilitate the tunnel excavation for the Superconducting Super Collider project in Waxahachie, Texas.
1993
Maraven Refinery Pipe Rack
A.H. Beck was contracted to install 1,100 drilled shafts, 48 to 72 inches in diameter, 50 feet deep, for a connecting pipe rack 4.4 miles long between two new facilities of the “Petroleos de Venezuela” (PDVSA) Cardon Refinery in Venezuela.
