A.H. Beck installs 18 shafts up to 120 feet deep for the 761-foot-long bridge over the Gila River in Winkleman, Arizona
The SR-77 Gila River Bridge Replacement in Winkleman, AZ was completed in May 2021 for the Arizona Department of Transportation. The new 761-foot-long bridge is essential to the communities in the area as it is a major access point to the mining centers. The SR-77 Bridge Replacement Project consisted of eighteen (18) 84-inch and 96-inch diameter shafts with varying depths between 90 and 120 feet deep. The shafts were installed in the Gila Conglomerate Formation that is predominantly fine grain sand, gravel and cobbles. A permanent surface casing was installed at each shaft location to ensure a stable work area and bentonite slurry was utilized to maintain shaft stability in the sandy/gravel soil profile and high-water table encountered on the project.
