For the I-20/26/126 corridor reconfiguration in Columbia, SC, United Infrastructure/Archer Western Joint Venture contracted A.H. Beck to install foundations for a new bridge over the Saluda River. A.H. Beck installed 78-inch diameter shafts, with depths of 78 feet, into amphibolite and granite bedrock. The 35,000-psi rock required various excavation methods, including a combination of standard and reverse circulation down hole hammers.
