A.H. Beck performs ground improvement to support the new tank expansion within the facility in Refinery, Texas.
A.H. Beck, working as a subcontractor to the owner of the facility, completed the ground improvement elements to support the new tank expansion within the facility. The ground improvement consisted of a series of Geopier Impact R (mandrel and top feed system) elements to a depth of 13-ft spaced in a grid to support the 45-ft diameter tank. The Impact R elements were used to install the ground improvement versus traditional G3 methods due to loose water bearing soils present at the project site. Series of test were conducted throughout production including Crowd Stabilization Tests (CST’s), Flow Tests, probe volume test holes and a static compression modulus test. Access was extremely limited with three side of the site already occupied by pipe racks, existing tank an existing process unit. All work was completed with zero incidents or disruptions to the active plant operations.
