A.H. Beck installs 76 drilled shafts with restricted heights all while the road remained open in McLennan County.
The State Highway 6 Bridge rehabilitation project included 76 – 30” diameter drilled shafts located on the west end of bridge that were installed underneath the existing bridge deck, while the roadway remained open the public. The overhead working height under the bridge was 43 feet and the drilled shaft depths ranged from 45 to 76 feet. All the shafts on the project required permanent casing that extended 4 feet below the tip elevation of the existing foundations to ensure zero settlement on the existing structure. The average casing length on the project was 50 feet with the longest being 68 feet. The restricted working height required the permanent casing and rebar cages to be installed sections that averaged 18 feet and were spliced/welded over the shaft location and lowered to the final tip elevation.
