A.H. Beck is contracted for 108 foundations on a green field power plant for Dominion Energy in Emporia, Virginia.
This project included foundations on a green field power plant being constructed by Fluor for Dominion Energy. The 108 foundations under the cooling fans, were 48 inch diameter with depths ranging from 30 to 60 feet, drilled through placed fill and virgin material with 6 ft. rock sockets extending into 25,000 psi granite. A. H. Beck used temporary steel casings to stabilize the excavations through the overburden sands to stabilize the soils. The rock sockets were excavated using an industry leading, 48 inch, full faced, down-hole hammer. The down-hole hammer was able to excavate the 6 ft. rock sockets in less than an hour per shaft. The entire project was fast paced with rigid deadlines and A. H. Beck was able to complete the project ahead of schedule and on budget.
